THE GUJARAT Police collected over Rs 18 lakh in fines through the Bharat Bill Payment System (BBPS) in around three weeks, even as the state government encouraged this as a process to pay against the e-challans.
According to a release issued by the government on Wednesday, the facility, launched by the state traffic branch, was enabled with a partnership with State Bank of India. From October 1 to November 24, fines worth Rs 18.05 lakh were collected against challans issued, the release said.
This allows motorists who flout traffic rules to clear challans directly through Google Pay, PhonePe, BHIM Pay and SBI’s YONO app.
This is a step forward from 2023 when the payment of fines through net banking, debit/credit card, UPI and PoS through the ‘One Nation One Challan’ application was launched, the release added.
The system allows those penalised, to clear their e-challans issued in the past 90 days, after which they move to virtual court.
The statement said that payments can be done by choosing ‘State Traffic Branch, Gujarat’ on any of the enabled platforms.
