IIT students plan website to share works

The student bodies of the Indian Institutes of Technology are planning to launch a common website and a newsletter by the end of November this year.

The student bodies of the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) are planning to launch a common website and a newsletter by the end of November this year. The prime focus would be on sharing various researches and academic materials.

The design is ready and the materials,which would be uploaded on the website,are under process,said a member of one of the student bodies.

Student leaders are expecting that the website would be a platform where all the IIT students’ research works would be uploaded and shared. It would also give the outsiders a glimpse into the campus life and culture of different IITs.

Shashank Pandey,Convener of IIT-Gandhinagar’s student body,said the newsletter would be ready by November 10,and the website is likely to be launched by November-end.

Student body leaders from the 10 IITs met at IIT-Gandhinagar to chart out various issues which would be made available on the website.

The fourth annual IIT-Gymkhana Summit 2011,founded by IIT-Guwahati’s former student leader Kalyan Surapanani,is being hosted over the weekend.

The concept is inspired by IIT-Madras. It would help the students to get research ideas and avoid duplication of research,Surapanani said. Student leaders from IITs like Gandhinagar,Guwahati,Rajasthan,Madras,Mandi,Ropar,Indore and Hyderabad were present the summit. The students from Kanpur and Bombay joined the meet through video-conferencing.

Two IIT alumni,business consultant and Pan-IIT Gujarat (an alumni association) founder and head Sunil Parekh and urban planning Professor at CEPT University,Utpal Sharma also joined the students.
