The news of electoral loss of Satish Patel,Congress candidate for the Limdi constituency and son of formidable Congress MP representing Surendranagar constituency Soma Ganda Patel, were followed by rumours that the senior Patel was planning to join the BJP. However,Patel a known turncoat turned down the rumours and vowed to stay in Congress party.
In the 2012 Assembly elections,Patel had contested from Limdi constituency, winning it by a thin margin. However, later he had resigned from the seat while continuing as the Congress MP from Surendranagar constituency. This had necessitated bypoll for the Limdi Assembly constituency and Congress had fielded Soma Gandas son,Satish. However, against popular speculation, the senior Patel failed to secure victory for his son on his home turn – Limdi is part of Surendranagar parliament constituency.
The news of Congress loss on the seat were soon followed by rumours that Soma Ganda Patel was planning to join the BJP.
There is no substance in the rumours that I will resign from the party or my seat due to defeat of my son,the Congress candidate for Limdi Assembly bypoll, said Patel.
They (BJP) did not allow our Koli community members and Darbar voters in several villages to come out for voting for the Congress candidate, he said. He said just because his son had lost in the election,he would not quit the party.
