Himalya shuts down food unit after fire

Agro and food processing company Himalya International said it has shut down its Gujarat unit after a fire incident in the plant on Friday.

Agro and food processing company Himalya International said it has shut down its Gujarat unit after a fire incident in the plant on Friday. “There was a fire in Himalya’s Gujarat plant which was controlled by three fire tenders,” the company said in a Bombay Stock Exchange filing. The Vadnagar plant “has been shut down and damage is being assessed,” it said.

Himalya International Ltd (HIL) had opened its new food processing unit in 55 acres of land situated at Sultanpur village in April this year which was inaugurated by Chief Minister Narendra Modi.

The Himachal Pradesh-based agro and food processing brand armed with an investment of Rs 200 crore had tied up with 10,000 farmers for “contract farming” to produce mushrooms,processed potatoes and was also into processing milk to produce cheese sticks and frozen yoghurt at this unit.
