High turnout marks peaceful Assembly bypolls

The bypolls in seven Assembly constituencies passed off peacefully on Thursday with an unusually high voter turnout of nearly 63 per cent.

The Dehgam seat registered the highest voting between 70 and 72 per cent,while the minimum turnout was recorded at Danta with 56 per cent voters coming out to exercise their franchise.

At other places,Chotila recorded 54 to 57 per cent turnout,Jasdan 66 to 68 per cent,Dhoraji 58 to 62 per cent,Sami 60 to 62 per cent and Kodinar 65 to 67 per cent,according the State Election Commission.

State Chief Election Commissioner Anita Karwal said,“We are collecting and compiling the figures,and the exact numbers would be available tomorrow.”

Six seats had fallen vacant after the sitting MLAs were elected to the Lok Sabha,while one fell vacant due to the death of sitting legislator Popatbhai Jinjaria.
