At the traffic junction at Sahara Darwaja,a traffic policeman stopped the auto and demanded to see the driver’s licence and badge number. The auto driver told the policeman that his passenger was in advanced labour and that it was an emergency. However, the cop refused to listen. Instead,he checked the auto thoroughly and reportedly damaged the windshield with his lathi before letting it go.

As the autorickshaw entered the NCH campus,Amritadevi delivered her baby, weighing 2.7 kg. On hearing Paswan’s cries for help, the hospital emergency staff rushed out and took the mother and child inside for treatment. The condition of Amritadevi and her baby was stable. This was her third child.

Paswan had reportedly begged the policeman to let him go. But the appeal fell on deaf ears.

Assistant commissioner of police (traffic) Vidhi Chaudhari said,”We have come to know about it and are carrying out investigations.”
