Gujarat — also the host state — won the maximum number of awards during the three-day 4th Global Renewable Energy Investors Meet and Expo. This is the first time the meet was organised outside Delhi.

Gujarat was ranked among the top three states in multiple categories such as overall renewable energy capacity, solar power capacity and wind power capacity among others.
While Gujarat was ranked on top under overall renewable energy capacity achieved and overall wind power capacity achieved categories, it was ranked second under overall solar power capacity achieved as Rajasthan pipped Gujarat to be at the top.

Other top ranked states under these categories were Rajasthan (bagged two awards), Tamil Nadu (two) and Karnataka (two), Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand one each under overall hydro power capacity achievers category.

Winners were divided into three states, North Eastern Region (NER) states and Union Territories.

Reflecting on the achievements in renewable energy, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel during one of the sessions organised on the second day of the expo on Tuesday said: “Gujarat is also taking lead in the field by maximising utilization of renewable energy sources with a global destination and a gateway to the future”.

The CM participated in the state session of the three-day RE Summit on ‘Energy Transition Towards 100 GW Renewable Energy in Gujarat’. “Gujarat is one of the leading states in the production of wind and solar energy,” the CM said. Renewable energy accounts for 54 per cent of the state’s installed energy capacity of more than 50,000 MW.

The CM also launched ‘Mission 100 GW of Renewable Energy in Gujarat’ and released ‘Gujarat Energy Vision 2047’.

According to the information shared by the state government, four MoUs were signed between Power Grid Corporation of India (PGCIL) and Gujarat government worth Rs 5000 crore; Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Limited (GSEC) and Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL) worth Rs 59,000 crore; Avada Energy and Gujarat Power Corporation Limited (GPCL) worth Rs 85,000 crore and between Juniper Green Energy and Gujarat Energy Development Agency (GEDA) worth Rs 30,000 crore.

Appealing to the stakeholders “to study and take advantage” of projects and schemes in Gujarat including Kutch’s 37 GW hybrid energy park, 4 semiconductor plants and Gujarat’s sector specific policies, especially renewable energy policy and green hydrogen policy, the CM highlighted the importance of the summit “for self-reliance in renewable energy”. He also exhorted the participants to achieve the “three goals of energy security, clean energy and net zero through renewable energy”.

Addressing the stakeholders, Union Minister of New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi said, “Gujarat is a smart choice for setting up renewable energy technology”, adding that the state “accounts for about 53 per cent of India’s solar generation capacity”. Under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, 3.5 lakh consumers have installed rooftop solar systems in the country, with 50 per cent installations completed.
