Teen’s body found from orchard in Gujarat village, 10 teams formed to probe case
According to the police, the victim's sister received a call from a friend of the deceased, who was allegedly speaking to the victim when she went “missing”.

The body of a 19-year-old college student was recovered from a mango orchard in a Gujarat village on Thursday evening by family and friends who had begun searching for her after she “did not return home from tuition classes”, said Valsad district police.
According to the police, the victim’s sister received a call from a friend of the deceased, who was allegedly speaking to the victim when she went “missing”. The friend told the victim’s sister that her phone had allegedly switched off after she “decided to answer a call from another friend”.
The victim’s sister then reportedly met a few of the deceased’s friends near Udvada railway station where a few friends of the deceased began a “search” for her.
Police said that the victim’s footwear was found on a road leading to the mango orchard and that the friend who had called the victim’s sister found her lifeless body under a tree. Police added that the friend then took the body on his two-wheeler to a hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival.
Valsad District Superintendent of Police Karanraj Vaghela told The Indian Express that the forensic post-mortem conducted at Surat on Friday had revealed the primary cause of death to be asphyxia due to strangulation.
Vaghela said, “The police received a call from the hospital, where the victim had been taken. We immediately began a probe and sent the body for autopsy… We have registered an FIR against an unidentified person. We are awaiting the detailed forensic report to ascertain if any sexual assault took place.”
The Valsad district police have formed ten teams comprising the district’s Local Crime Branch as well as the Special Operations Group and are also examining the CCTV footage of the area. The victim’s call detail records have also been sought for the probe. The FIR has been lodged at Pardi police station for murder.
