Gujarat: More women enrol as voters in Kadi and Visavadar ahead of by-elections

The Kadi and Visavadar assembly seats which are due for bypolls have recorded a total addition of 561 voters — in both seats the female voters are higher than their male counterparts, according to the electoral rolls that were revised and published on Monday.

The Kadi seat fell vacant when the incumbent BJP MLA Karshanbhai Solanki who had won in 2022, died in February, aged 68.

The Visavadar seat fell vacant when the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Bhupendra Bhayani, quit the party in 2023 to join the BJP, reducing the party’s seats in the Gujarat assembly to four. Three petitions had been filed challenging his 2022 election results, all of which were withdrawn paving the way for the polls. Even as the dates for the by-election are yet to be announced, AAP has announced its former state president Gopal Italia as the candidate for Visavadar.

While the Visavadar seat recorded an increase by 185 voters, including one third gender, 24 males and 160 females, the Kadi seat, reserved for Scheduled Caste, in Mehsana saw a rise of 376 voters, of which 152 are males and 224 females.

In total the Kadi seat now has 2,89,746 voters, including 1,49,719 males, 1,40,023 females and four third genders, while the Visavadar assembly seat in Junagadh district, has a total of 2,61,052 voters, including 1,35,597 males, 1,25,451 females and four third genders, according to the data.
