Anjana Patel, wife of Sardar Patel Group president Lalji Patel, has moved the Gujarat High Court, seeking formation of a special investigation team (SIT) to probe violence in Mehsana on April 17 during the jail bharo andolan.
Petitioner’s lawyer B M Mangukiya said the petition has been moved as his client does not have “faith” in the investigation done by the Gujarat police in the case.
“The petition was slated for hearing today, but it could not happen. So, we are going to mention it before the court tomorrow for hearing,” Mangukiya said. The jail bharo stir was launched by the Sardar Patel Group in Mehsana to push for quota benefits to the Patidar community and demand immediate release of Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti leader Hardik Patel, who was arrested following the violence.
