Not The Girl’s Fault
At the Kadva Patidar’s socio-economic association Vishv Umiya Foundation’s Sneh Milan in Ahmedabad on Sunday, its president R P Patel spoke on the issue of a rise in the cases of “love marriages where girls elope” in the community. Appealing to parents to provide love and care to their daughters at home, he expressed concern.
On average, he said, the foundation receives four to five cases of girls eloping in a week. It is not only the girl’s fault who elopes with someone from outside the community, he insisted.
“Such men play with the emotions of daughters, get in touch with them through social media, take them out to eat, watch movies, and seduce them. Bollywood also depicts the events of marriage in other societies and makes daughters more delusional. Such incidents occur in all households — rich, middle class, or poor. Daughters should be given warmth at home… create such an environment where daughters share everything freely with the parents every day after dinner for 15-20 minutes,” Patel appealed.
