Even as speculation was rife about the superannuation of Gujarat police chief, Vikas Sahay, he got a six-month extension late Monday evening, his last working day. On Tuesday, Sahay, a 1989 batch IPS officer, in a post on X, expressed his “deepest gratitude” to the Central and state governments. “I feel that in policing, there is no individual success, no individual failure. There is always collective success and collective failure.” He added that the extension had “further strengthened our resolve to make persistent efforts for the security and safety of Gujarat”. Shamsher Singh, who was next in line for DGP, was in January deputed to the BSF in Delhi as the Additional Director General while the second senior-most officer Manoj Agrawal who is a 1991 batch officer, is due to retire in September.
