“The announcement may come now in some time that will give a thrust to the development of tourism in the state,” the officer said. (Representational Image)As the Gujarat government is putting a lot of emphasis on the development of tourism in the state, it is possible that it may carve out an independent department for it. Currently, tourism is part of the Industries & Mines (I&M) Department.
A senior government officer said the government was planning to separate tourism from the I&M department before the annual budget this year, but could not do so for some reason. “The announcement may come now in some time that will give a thrust to the development of tourism in the state,” the officer said.
Humble Contribution
Recalling the university days and his bond with Himachal Pradesh Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla, Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII) Director General Sunil Shukla said he too “had a small party to play in his victory” (unki vijay me thoda bahut yogdan mera bhi tha). At the end of a special lecture on ‘Amrit Kaal Ka Bharat’ by the Governor, the EDII DG shared that both are from the same city and studied in the same institution — Uttar Pradesh’s Deen Dayal Upadhyay Gorakhpur University. “When I was there, the Governor was contesting from the ABVP panel. So, in his victory there was some contribution by me as well,” he stated.
Saving Greens
As the state government is working hard on the Gandhi Ashram Memorial & Precinct Development Project in Ahmedabad, a senior officer said special care is being taken to ensure that the least number of trees in the Ashram campus are disturbed for the project. The green campus houses many old trees.
“We have given specific instructions (to the agency that is developing the project) that 95 per cent of the trees in the campus should stay and be not disturbed for the redevelopment,” the officer said.
The Rs 1,200-crore project is being jointly implemented by the state and Central governments.
