Gujarat-cadre IAS officer P D Palsana appointed as ‘full-fledged’ Managing Director of GUEEDC

Leaders associated with the 2015 Patidar quota stir had threatened to launch an agitation because of the long-standing MD vacancy in the Corporation, which focuses on the development of unreserved classes

The Gujarat government has appointed Gujarat-cadre IAS officer P D Palsana as the “full-fledged” Managing Director of Gujarat Unreserved Educational & Economical Development Corporation (GUEEDC).

An officer from the 2012 batch, Palsana was transferred from his post as Additional Secretary in the Agriculture, Farmers’ Welfare and Cooperation Department of the state government. He had been holding the additional charge of Managing Director of GUEEDC. However, with the state’s General Administration department’s notification on Tuesday, Palsana was “full-fledged appointed” as the MD of GUEEDC.

Originally, Palsana was from the Gujarat State Civil Services and he was promoted to the IAS cadre. A native of Amreli district, he has a master’s degree in Agriculture.

The GUEEDC and Gujarat Unreserved Educational & Economical Development Commission were formed by the Gujarat government after the Patidar quota agitation hit the state in 2015. Notably, the post of MD of GUEEDC had been vacant for long. Leaders associated with the stir had threatened to launch an agitation to press for the filling of the vacancy, as well as that of Chairman of the Gujarat Unreserved Educational & Economical Development Commission.

The GUEEDC carries out various activities for the social and economic development of communities belonging to unreserved classes.

One of the Patidar stir leaders, Dinesh Bambhaniya, expressed satisfaction with the appointment and added that the MD will be able to take policy decisions easing difficulties of students of non-reserved categories. He also reiterated the demand to appoint a Chairman of Gujarat Unreserved Educational & Economical Development Commission soon.
