Passengers and driver of a private luxury bus had an escape when the bus veered off a minor bridge on National Highway 8E and landed upside down near Jafrabad in Amreli district on Monday.
The police said the driver failed to negotiate a turn on a culvert at Charnala on NH8E near Jafrabad at around 12:30 as the vehicle crashed into a protective wall and fell off the bridge. The bus, carrying 35 passengers landed upside down. But the police said, miraculously, nobody was injured.
“A few passengers sustained minor bruises. But nobody received any serious injury. The driver of the bus was drunk and failed to negotiate the curve. The area is an accident-prone zone and have witnessed mishaps in the past also,” Pravin Der, assistant sub-inspector of Rajula police, said.
The police said the bus was on its way to Ahmedabad from Diu when it met with the accident. The driver of the bus was identified as Baldev Rabari, a resident of Ahmedabad.
“The travel agency to which the bus belonged arranged for another bus and passengers continued their onward journey. We have detained the driver after filing cases of rash driving and under Prohibition Act against him,” Der, who is investigating the case, further said.
