To observe December 26 as Veer Bal Diwas to commemorate the martyrdom of two young sons of Guru Gobind Singh – Zorawar Singh (9) and Fateh Singh (7) – the Gujarat BJP has organised three programmes, said a party statement on Tuesday. The state level programme will be held at a gurudwara in the Thaltej area which will be attended by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and state BJP organising secretary Ratnakar. The function will include sangeet kirtan and langar. At the district level, an exhibition on the sacrifice made by the two sons of Guru Gobind Singh will be organised and short films on the subject will be screened. At the mandal level, competitions will be held in schools. Zorawar Singh and Fateh Singh were bricked alive on the orders of Mughal faujdar Wazir Khan of Sirhind after they had refused to convert to Islam and had instead chosen death. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had earlier announced to observe December 26 as Veer Bal Diwas to commemorate the martyrdom of the two sons of Guru Gobind Singh.
