With cases of Sudden Cardiac Deaths (SCD) among India’s youth being frequently reported, the Gujarat Biotechnology University (GBU) Gandhinagar will organise a two-day national conference —Cardiovascular Research Convergence (CRC-2025) — on the theme “Redefining Cardiovascular Health: Integrating Basic Science, Clinical Insight, Biotechnology and Artificial Intelligence”. Set to kick off on Saturday, the event will bring together leading scientists, clinicians and academicians from across states on one platform.

“Once considered rare, SCD is now claiming the lives of seemingly healthy individuals — students, athletes, professionals — often without warning. Recent data reveal that one in four heart attack deaths in India now occur before 40, with contributing factors including undiagnosed genetic conditions such as Long QT Syndrome and cardiomyopathies; lifestyle stressors, sleep deprivation, poor dietary habits, unsafe use of supplements, steroids, and energy drinks; and lack of preventive screening and emergency preparedness. Gujarat, too, has witnessed a surge in such cases, prompting urgent calls for interdisciplinary research, public awareness, and policy-level interventions,” Vimal Shah, deputy registrar, GBU, told The Indian Express.
