FSSAI seizes 6.5 tonnes of adulterated ghee from Rajkot
Ahmedabad: The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) on Thursday said it has seized approximately 6,500 kg of adulterated ghee, valued at Rs 35 lakh, from a dairy unit in Rajkot. The action against M/s Korova Milk Product Private Limited was part of a “Special Ghee Surveillance Drive”. During an initial inspection, FSSAI took samples and sent them to a laboratory. The lab results confirmed the samples were allegedly “sub-standard” and adulterated with vegetable fat – a violation of the Food Safety and Standards Regulations, 2011. The Food Business Operator (FBO) was given one month to appeal by sending a sample to a referral laboratory. Following the FBO’s failure to do so, a follow-up inspection was conducted on August 20, said the statement by FSSAI. “All available stocks of food ingredients and finished goods were seized. New samples were also collected and sent for further analysis. The Central Licensing Authority will take additional legal and regulatory action based on the final lab results…,” said the statement.
