Gujarat: 46 tonnes of adulterated food items worth Rs 1.8 crore seized in August

The Food and Drug Control Administration (FDCA) conducted around 10 raids across various districts in Gujarat in August, seizing adulterated and duplicate food items valued at Rs 1.8 crore, according to officials.

During the raids, authorities seized 28 samples containing 46 tonnes of adulterated food items.The seized items included ghee, palm oil, cooking medium, and silver foil.

“Strict action is being taken against those who make adulterated and duplicate food items. A special drive was organised by the administration throughout the month of Shravan to ensure that the public gets pure and safe food items,” Commissioner Food and Drug Control Administration (FDCA), Dr HG Koshiya was quoted in a statement.

The crackdown covered Surat, Ahmedabad, Banaskantha, and Mehsana, among other districts, said the Commissioner.

“During the drive, three samples of ghee and one butter worth around Rs 65 lakh were seized from Surat’s SRK Dairy Farm. In addition, 208 kg of vegetable fat worth Rs 62,000 was seized from Surat’s Shyam Enterprise,” the statement added.

Similarly, 448 kg of ghee worth Rs 2.75 lakh was seized from Ahmedabad’s New Adinath Dairy Products and 11 tonnes of ghee worth Rs 10 lakh was seized from Mahadev Dairy — later declared as substandard, according to authorities. Moreover, 5 tonnes of palm oil worth Rs 7.48 lakh was seized from Shivam Oil Industries, Bakrol-Bujrang, Daskroi taluka in Ahmedabad.

The FDCA teams also seized 11 tonnes of RBD palm oil worth Rs 16 lakh from Happy Oil Industries (Chhatral) and 1.7 tonnes of cooking oil worth Rs 7 lakh was seized from Food Service Network (Kheda).

The officials also seized 824 kg of adulterated ghee worth Rs 5.60 lakh from Surbhi Traders, Vav and Tasvi Marketing and Dairy Products, Deesa in Banaskantha district in multiple raids. Similarly, 649 kg of fake paneer worth Rs 1.30 lakh and 238 kg of adulterated cheese worth over Rs 32000 were seized from M Divine Food in Bijapur, Mehsana, said the officials.
