Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation has decided to recruit 500 candidates to fill the vacancies of drivers-cum-conductors. A GSRTC release said of the 500 posts,205 will be for general category candidates,while the remaining seats will be reserved for different categories. According to GSRTC Secretary P D Patel,the selected candidates will be paid a fixed pay of Rs 2,500 per month,which would be Rs 3,500 a month if the state government approves the transport corporations proposal regarding pay hike. He said the candidates will be placed in the pay-scale of Rs 3,100-7,995 on their appointment. Those who are in the age group of 24-35 and have passed at least Class X examination,are eligible to apply latest by July 31,Patel said,adding that the application form priced Rs 50 will be available till July 20. He said the drivers will be recruited provided they have four years experience and have signed an undertaking to acquire the qualification necessary for conductors post within a year of selection. This will be a major recruitment drive to be undertaken by the corporation after a gap of five years to improve its fleet movement,said Patel. It is also for the first time that the corporation has introduced the post of driver-cum-conductor,and it will enable the corporation to make the drivers function as conductors if need be,said Patel. Currently,around 16,000 drivers and 14,000 conductors serve the GSRTC,he added.
