Newly appointed Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president Shaktisinh Gohil has assured support to the BJP government in the aftermath of Cyclone Biparjoy as a “constructive opposition party”. However, he demanded that the cyclone be declared a national calamity.
In a letter to Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Gohil stated that he, along with Congress Legislature Party leader Amit Chavda and other leaders, were in Kutch during the landfall and witnessed the havoc it wreaked.
He also demanded immediate action to restore power supply and cashdoles in a long list he put forth to the CM.
Gohil also added how when Saurashtra was hit by a cyclone in 1982, all his suggestions made to the then incumbent government were acted upon and “were also noted in the government records”.
Gohil has requested the government to take immediate action to restore power supply to villages, provide assistance for immediate rehabilitation arrangements, cash doles to those affected or displaced, daily wages to labourers and dry grass to herdsmen and farmers.
He also demanded for setting up medical checkup camps for both humans and animals in the affected areas to tackle the potential spread of any diseases due to the recent flooding in some areas.
