Cabinet minister for primary, secondary and adult education, Kuber Dindor, Tuesday informed the Gujarat Assembly that the state government has taken stern action in a case where students of a government primary school in Paldi-Kankaj village of Ahmedabad were admitted to a private school by accepting fees from them.
Dindor said that a fine worth Rs 1 lakh was imposed on the private school and its recognition has been cancelled forever. An FIR has also been lodged against the administrator of the private school and the principal of the government primary school, he added.
The education minister’s statement came in response to senior Congress legislator Shailesh Parmar’s query during Question Hour in the second sitting of the House Tuesday.
According to Parmar, some students of government-run Paldi-Kankaj Primary School were admitted to Sharda Shikshan Tirth School, a private grant-in-aid school in the same village. The private school collected fees from the students.
In reply to Parmar’s question on steps taken in the aftermath of the incident, Dindor said the state authorities had formed a committee to inquire into the episode, after which, he added, the allegations were found to be true.
Following the inquiry, Dindor said, the principal of the government primary school was suspended through an order in August last year.
