Leading IT research and advisory firm,Gartner,will be organising a special meeting on Thursday with chief information officers (CIOs) of government and public sector enterprises in Gujarat on how to navigate the unsettled Information Technology (IT) market.

The firm has organised a local briefing sessions with the PSUs and government CIOs on how to save hardware costs through virtualisation,manage storage growth and showcase best practices on how to negotiate with software vendors.

The CIOs have the opportunity to drive cost containment and innovation at the same time in the current challenging situation due to the economic slowdown.

“Government and public sector enterprise CIOs can set up long-term measurement and IT cost management programs to avoid cost optimisation becoming a one-time tactical effort. These programs will enable IT departments to break free from being perceived as cost centres,and instead enable them to be perceived as a value driver,” said Bhavish Sood,principal research analyst at Gartner.

Gartner analysts will share and discuss some of the best of breed practices for cost containment and optimisation.
