Girls yet again outscored boys in the HSC general stream examination,but the overall pass percentage dropped to 77.04 as compared to the last years 85.83 per cent. The state education board,however,said the results of 2010 and 2011 need not be compared because of changes in parameters and introduction of the grading system.
But this year also a common thread that linked the preference of toppers,after state Education Minister Ramanlal Vora declared the results on Thursday,was that a majority of them wanted to become Chartered Accountant.
Ahmedabad has the highest 88 students with A1 grades out of the total 221,and 1,331 A2 graders of the 10,810 students across the state. Of the 88 students with A grades,Vidyanagar High School has 39 and H B Kapadia School has 22.
The 77.04 pass per cent represents 2,72,373 pass-outs of the 353,547 students who wrote the exams. The pass-outs include 2,68,823 (76.94%) in general stream,1,675 (88.86%) in vocational course and 1,893 (82.74%) in higher secondary basic.
The pass percentage among the girls stood at 86.90 while 75.72 per cent boys cleared the exam. The result in English medium was better at 87.72 pass per cent and Gujarati medium at 76.58 per cent.
There are 376 students who scored hundred out of hundred marks in statistics,14 in psychology,eight in accountancy and nine in computer subjects,say official figures.
In general stream,there are 3,199 students who got more than 99 percentile,18 in vocational course stream and 22 in higher secondary basic stream.
District wise,Dahod topped the list with the highest pass percentage of 88.10,while Narmada was at the bottom with 56.42 pass percentage. The districts where pass percentage crossed the 80-mark but remained below 90 are Navsari,Patan,Banaskantha,Kheda,Junagadh,Valsad and Surat.
Gandhinagar district has the dubious distinction of not having even one A1 grade student and its overall result is 70.08 per cent.
Also,not a single student could achieve A1 grade in Dangs,Banaskantha and Valsad districts.
Among the exam centres,Jam Kandorna recorded a pass percentage of 99.50 whereas Nizar centre was at the bottom with 27.02 pass percentage. In Ahmedabad city,Ellisbridge centre scored 95.31 pass percentage while Saraspur scored the lowest at 64.87 per cent among the 10 centres.
Rajkot has 33 A1 grade achievers followed by Surat (23),Kheda (19) and Sabarkantha (15) Ahmedabad rural (10),Dahod (10), Navsari (six),Kutch and Vadodara (five each).
