GCCI approves amendments to its constitution

The Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) approved its amended constitution at the Extraordinary General Meeting held on Friday,a member of High Powered Committee (HPC) said.

“The number of executive committee members has been drastically reduced in the amended constitution,” said Jehangir Cama,member of HPC and director of Cama Group of Hotels. “Now,there would be 50 elected members,20 co-opted and 15 invitees in the executive committee.”

“We have restricted the invitees to the chamber’s executive committee,” he said,adding,“The tenure of executive committee has also been shortened from three years to two.” Out of 3,141 members of GCCI,254 were present in the EGM.

Around a dozen clauses in the GCCI constitution have been amended by the chamber’s five-member HPC headed by Nirma group chief Karsan Patel to streamline the apex industry body’s functioning. “An extension of two years to HPC has been approved by the members. The tenure of the committee was scheduled to expire in October this year,” Cama said.

HPC comprises state’s prominent industrialists like Nirma group chief Karsan Patel,Adani Group CMD Gautam Adani,Zydus Cadila CMD Pankaj Patel,Jehangir Cama and former director of IIM-A Bakul Dholakia.
