Acting on a tip-off,the Local Crime Branches (LCB) of Ahmedabad Rural and Sabarkantha district police have busted a gang of robbers,who used to target passers-by on the Sardar Patel Ring Road and nearby approach roads. Six members of the gang have been arrested from the Narol area. The Ahmedabad Rural police said the gang has confessed to have committed 14 robberies. The arrested have been identified as Atul Chunara alias Bhopo alias Ajo,Mahesh Chunara,Kalo Chunara alias Jayanti Arjan,Arjan Chunara alias Ajo alias Kana Chunara,Lakhu Chunara and Bharat Chunara. While the first four are natives of Kotda near Dhandhuka,the remaining two are from Navapura village of Daskroi taluka in Ahmedabad district. According to the police,the gang had adopted the modus operandi of stopping vehicles at night. They attacked the passengers with wooden stumps and stones,before robbing them of the cash and valuables. District Superintendent of Police S S Trivedi said that following the onslaught of such incidents,the Sarkhej LCB was working towards nabbing the gang,and during an investigation it was found that a similar gang is also active in Sabarkantha district. Thus,the police of the two districts worked in tandem and ultimately nabbed the gang from Narol on Thursday. Further investigations are on,he said.
