Gang involved in computer thefts busted in city

The Local Crime Branch in Ahmedabad busted a gang of thieves on Thursday,who were involved in stealing computers and LCD television sets from schools and panchayat offices in eight villages of Ahmedabad district.

The Local Crime Branch in Ahmedabad busted a gang of thieves on Thursday,who were involved in stealing computers and LCD television sets from schools and panchayat offices in eight villages of Ahmedabad district.

The LCB stated that the thieves — Devipoojak Group — had reportedly stolen 10 computer sets and three LCD televisions (granted by government),worth Rs 2.50 lakh.

The LCB officials said the gang used to break the locks of computer rooms in schools and village panchayat offices in the night and steal computers and hardware items.

The rampant thefts had left the village schools worried. In August,Bavla police had arrested two members of the gang — Hasmukhs Dvipoojak and Natu Devipoojak — red-handed with computer hardware parts. Interrogations of both revealed names of others- Rajesh alias Pravin Devipoojak and Rajni Devipoojak,both were arrested.

The police said they had conducted thefts in Devarsal,Tanvana,Kakhda,Moti Baru,Metal,Vasna and Keraala villages in Ahmedabad district.

The arrested have been remanded in police custody.
