While senior Congress leader and former education minister Hasmukh Patel died of age-related complications in Ahmedabad on Friday, former minister of state for agriculture, Vallabh Vaghasiya, died in a road accident in Amreli district on Thursday.
Patel (84) was an educationist who also held the position of minister of state for education, sports, youth and cultural activities. Congress spokesperson Manish Doshi said that Patel is survived by his wife and a son.
Senior state Congress leaders, like party president Jagdish Thakor and legislative party leader Amit Chavda, paid their tributes to Patel.
A statement from the Congress said that as per Patel’s wish, his body has been donated to the Gujarat Cancer Institute in Ahmedabad.
Vaghasiya (68), meanwhile, was killed in a road accident near Savarkundala in Amreli district late Thursday.
He was a minister of state for agriculture and urban housing in the Vijay Rupani government.
BJP MLA from Amreli, Kaushik Vekariya, said that after sustaining serious head injuries in a road accident on Thursday night, Vaghasiya died in the ambulance while being taken to a hospital.
He is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter.
