The Gujarat education department has put in public domain the draft proposal for the implementation of the National Education Policy 2020 for higher education in the state and has invited suggestions and feedback.
Stakeholders and the public can submit feedback and suggestions until 5 pm on June 14.
Based on the suggestions, the education department will finalise the ‘Choice-Based Credit Framework’ for the current academic session and notify it through a Government Resolution (GR) that would be applicable to all education institutes.
The curriculum and credit framework for undergraduate programmes will be applicable to BA, BSc, BCom and all non-AICTE professional UG degree programmes, and MA, MSc, MCom and all non-AICTE professional PG degree programmes.
Under the proposed credit framework, the UG certificate will have a minimum 40 credit requirements, while UG diploma would need 80 credit requirements. The three-year bachelor’s degree would need 120 credit requirements and bachelors degree honours or bachelor degree honours with research would need a minimum credit of 160.
The state government, through its GR on January 24, had constituted an apex committee to suggest an implementation framework for NEP 2020. It has also formed steering and task-force committees under the apex panel to work towards actionable points listed in the GR.
The state universities have also been invited to present their views and schemes. To prepare the draft credit and curriculum framework, the state government has accepted the recommendation of the state universities, apex and steering committees, and has been working as per the implementation road map suggested by the members.
