Foetus remains found in Dahod hospital

A Team of district health officials and police recovered nine human skulls and bones of infants from the septic tank of Sai Baba Arogya Dham hospital at Dhanpur in Dahod on Wednesday during a raid.

The hospital,situated a few hundred steps away from the Dhanpur police station,is run by the doctor couple of Bharat Jadav and Vimla Jadav. The raid started at 2.30pm and lasted for five hours. The bones will be sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory,Gandhinagar for examination.

Dahod District Collector R M Jadav said,“This is a serious offence. The investigation is on and stern steps will be taken against the doctors.”

The raid was conducted two days after the couple was arrested on Monday for allegedly possessing illegitimate degree,operating a medical store and pathological laboratory without permit and irregular disposal of biomedical waste.

Bharat is in police remand till Thursday,while the bail plea of Vimla was rejected by the Judicial First Class Magistrate Court,Limkheda today. “We are trying to get Bharat’s remand period extended,” said Dhanpur police Inspector M S Vaghela.

Bharat,who has an ‘MBBS,MD,GPSC’ degree from Gwalior,Madhya Pradesh,has been staying in Gujarat for

the last 13 years. He initially worked with the Primary Health Centre at Karjeta taluka and was subsequently suspended from his duties on the ground of irregularities. In 2003,he opened his own hospital Sai Baba Arogya Dham. His wife Vimla also practised at the hospital with a degree called ‘MAS surgeon MTP’,which,according to health officials,does not exist. “Dr Bharat held a degree of MBBS from a Gwalior college but he was not registered with the Gujarat Medical Council,” said Dr V H Pathak,District Health Official,Dahod.

According to Pathak,the doctor does not have the permit for medical termination. “The hospital also does not have any gynaecologist or other specialist. They have been booked under the provisions of the Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act,” he added.

Incidentally,Bharat is also involved in a murder case in Gwalior. “As per information gathered from locals,he is accused of murdering a local girl in Gwalior in 2004,and has been out on bail. We are yet to confirm the case,” said Devgadh Baria Circle Police Inspector J D Sukhadia.

Sukhadia further said that although the hospital is located right in front of their police station,they were not aware about the technicality of medical practises.

“The doctors were never doubted because they had MBBS degrees. The Health Department should have been aware about the matter,” he added.
