Flight operations suspended at 4 airports in Gujarat

While the international airport in Rajkot will be closed till at least May 9, the dual-use airport in Jamnagar, as well as airports in Kachchh's Bhuj and Kandla, have also suspended operations for civilian passengers

Just hours after the attack by the Indian Armed Forces on terrorist camps in Pakistan as part of Operation Sindoor, civilian flight operations were suspended at Rajkot, Jamnagar, Bhuj and Kandla airports in Gujarat.

While the one in Rajkot is an international airport located at Hirasar, the one in Jamnagar is a dual-use premises — it is also used by the Indian Air Force.

Rajkot Collector Prabhav Joshi confirmed that the international airport in Rajkot would remain closed for at least three days from May 7 to May 9.

Airport Authority of India (AAI) officials at the civilian side of Jamnagar airport also confirmed that flight operations had been suspended on Wednesday morning. Jamnagar Collector K B Thakkar declined to confirm or deny the same.

Officials confirmed that flight operations at Bhuj and Kandla airports in Kachchh have also been suspended.

While civilian passenger and cargo aircraft operations remained operational at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad, it did send out an advisory to passengers. It stated, “In view of airspace restrictions and closure of certain airports across the country, flight operations may be impacted. We urge passengers to check with their airlines for the latest flight status before travelling to the airport.”
