Gujarat Vidyapith, Ahmedabad, founded by Mahatma Gandhi in 1920, will organise a five-day Gita Jayanti celebration on its campus from December 1. A series of lectures on the Gita, recitations, and discussions exploring Gandhi’s connection with the scripture will be held as part of the programme.

Since its inception, Gujarat Vidyapith has observed Gita Jayanti every year.

“The Gita Jayanti programmes will be held from December 1 to 5, 2025, at the Morarji Desai Mandapam,” Gujarat Vidyapith Vice Chancellor Harshad Patel told The Indian Express.

“In Gandhi’s life, Shrimad Bhagavad Gita remained a vital source of strength. He regarded the Gita not only as a spiritual text but also as a guide to duty, balance, inner strength, and steadiness of mind,” said Prof Bimal Pal, Head of the Yoga Studies Department.

Prof Pal said that the five-day celebration will feature lectures on themes such as ‘Gita’s life philosophy—discipline, motivation, and success’; ‘Jnana Yoga—focus, confidence, and mental strength’; ‘Karma Yoga—goal-setting and time management’; ‘Bhakti Yoga—stress-free and positive living’, and Gita and Mahatma Gandhi.

Among speakers include former bureaucrat Bhagyesh Jha who is chairman Gujarat Sahitya Academy, Ashok Sharma, principal secretary to the Governor and those from Chinmaya Mission and ISKCON.

Gita Jayanti marks the day when Lord Krishna imparted the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita to Arjuna on the battlefield of Mahabharata.

“The occasion is observed not merely as a religious remembrance but as a universal message of timeless ethical guidance. The Gita continues to offer insights into stability, duty, self-discipline, and the essence of human values. The purpose of the celebration is to reconnect society, especially the younger generation, with these ideals and encourage thoughtful living and moral responsibility,” V-C Harshad Patel said.
