Finally,VUDA comes up with rehabilitation plan

8-storey building to come up within 1 year

The Vadodara Urban Development Authority has finally listed its plan for residents of Madhavnagar in Atladara as well as residents of Keshavnagar in Tandalja. The authority has decided to redevelop the Atladara property where Madhavnagar stands into an eight-storeyed structure to rehabilitate residents of both these areas. Sources in VUDA said that the authority is contemplating giving away the Keshavnagar property for commercial redevelopment to builders.

On Tuesday,a committee of VUDA officials met the residents of Madhavnagar and Keshavnagar to enlist the proposed plan for rehabilitation as per “the instructions of the state government”.

The proposal was nothing short of a compromise that stands to benefit the authorities more than the residents. Sample the plan: The VUDA has put forth a proposed decision before 684 families of both colonies combined. The authorities will construct 33 eight-storeyed towers in place of the existing three-storeyed Madhavnagar buildings, consisting of 1RK flats, within one year. The Keshavnagar property in Tandalja, which will be vacated,is most likely to undergo a commercial redevelopment by a builder. During this one year, the residents of these societies are expected to arrange for their accommodations.

A resident from Madhavnagar, who was part of Tuesday’s meeting, said,“The authorities said that the government has put forth this proposal. They have promised to build new homes in place of the existing inhabitable buildings in Madhavnagar and shift residents from Keshavnagar into the same buildings. But for a year,we will have to find alternate accommodations.” He said officials have asked defaulting residents to pay pending installments to be eligible for the new deal.

Sources in VUDA said that plans to reconstruct Madhavnagar property has been in the pipeline for a while now. An official said,“The areas of Atladara and Tandalja have been going through massive property growth and these societies are only three-storey structures. They have a lot of scope for redevelopment. So,while the residents will retain their properties in the new constructions, some more flats can be constructed to be sold commercially or allotted to others.”

When contacted,VUDA Chairman N V Patel said,“I have to check with my junior officers what happened in the meeting today.”
