Engg, pharmacy admission tests to be cut short to only two rounds

Till last year, the admission was completed after four rounds, apart from one mock round.

Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) has decided to complete admission to engineering and pharmacy courses in two rounds from now onwards. The admission process for current year will begin after declaration of Std XII (science) results in the last week of this month.

Till last year, the admission was completed after four rounds, apart from one mock round.

The new decision has been taken to quicken the admission and to start classes early so that examinations can be held on time and results be declared without delay.

Speaking to The Indian Express, Commissioner (technical education) Anis Mankad said that the admission would be completed under any circumstances by July 31 and classes for the new term would begin from August 3.

Mankad said the Admission Committee for Professional Courses (ACPC) had been instructed to execute it without any changes.

Elaborating on the procedure, he said that after the mock round of seat allotments to students in different colleges based on merit, four other rounds were conducted. If the student did not get a seat in a college of his choice in the first round, he applied in the second round with his choice of institutes and he/she repeated it twice till they got the college of their choice or till the last round of admission process.

Mankad said that it unnecessarily delayed the admission and start of classes. This further delayed holding of examinations for the first semester and declaration of results and had a cascading effect on the rest of the academic work. “So, we have finally decided to close the admission at second round,’’ he said.
