With the state Assembly session coming to an end on Wednesday, activities for the Banaskantha District Central Cooperative Bank elections are picking up. Polling will take place on August 24,and the last date for filing nomination papers is August 4.
BJPs Radhanpur MLA and vice-chairman of Gujarat State Cooperative Bank,Shankarbhai Chaudhry, who heads the district bank,is planning to enter the fray once more. The Assembly session ended just now I have not given much of a thought to preparing for the elections yet,but I will certainly be there in the fray, Chaudhry said.
He has a running mate in state BJP vice-president and former chairman of the bank,Haribhai Chaudhry.
Let him contest, too. It is the election to the post of directors; the chairmans election will take place later, he said.
BJP cooperative cell convenor and Ahmedabad APMC chairman,Babubhai Jamnadas Patel said Chaudhry is the likely candidate for chairman.
On BJPs defeat in Vijapur and Dahod market yards,he said the winning margin of Congress candidates was very low and that no one had won by over four votes in these institutions.
The entire cooperative sector was with the Congress, and the BJP had worked hard to capture it, Patel said.
On the other hand,Congressman Dalsang Patel is being seen as a strong rival for Chaudhry. The tide is receding for the BJP and our party will make it,provided we get all-round and wholehearted support from all party leaders in the district, Dalsang said.
Local MP Mukesh Gadhvi and former MLA Govabhai Rabari are likely to play a crucial role in Congress performance in the elections to 16 seats of directors in various categories.
