A local court in Valsad has ordered a man,convicted for creating nuisance in court premises in a drunken state,to serve patients at the Valsad Civil Hospital for a month and carry out cleaning activities there.
Rameshchandra Parekh (48),a resident of Valsad,was found heavily drunk and creating nuisance in Valsad court premises on April 16,2008. He was arrested and later freed on bail.
The court pronounced its judgment on Monday,awarding him three months of imprisonment.
Parekh immediately filed a mercy petition saying he is the only bread-earner of his family.
On the basis of the mercy petition,the court later amended its judgment,ordering that Parekh serve the patients at the Civil Hospital in Valsad and carry out cleaning work as per medical superintendents orders.
Assistant public prosecutor K K Rawal welcomed the judgment.
The jails in the state are already flooded with criminals. Such types of punishment can change the mindset of people, he said.
