Diamond City greets ‘silver’ girl

Pooja Chaurasi,who won a silver medal for India in the Asian triathlon tournament held in Kazakhstan on Sunday,was felicitated by Surat Mayor Ranjeet Gilitwala,Municipal Commissioner S Aparna and District Collector A J Shah as she arrived at the railway station on Wednesday and greeted by a large crowd,including her parents.

Pooja won a silver in the junior level triathlon that included .75-km swimming,20 kilometers of cycling and five kilometers of running,which she completed in one hour,six minutes and 45 seconds.

Pooja was the only girl who represented India in the tournament. She is a third-time national champion in junior level.

“I cannot express my feeling. It was tough competition. I am happy with the silver medal but not satisfied. I will work hard to win a gold in coming years,which is my dream. I missed it by 30 seconds.”

Mother Reena Chaurasi said,“She is collecting medals for India with her hard work and determination. I wish she represents India in the senior-level triathlon some day and wins a gold. I am proud of her.”

Pooja has her job cut out ahead of the Asian triathlon tournament to be held in South Korea in August,2011.

She has also set her sights at the world triathlon tournament to be held in November 2011 in China.
