Ashoksinh Jadeja and his younger brother Kiritsinh are owners of the land on which the game zone was set up in 2021. (Express File Photo)A day after he was arrested by the Rajkot Crime Branch in the TRP Game Zone fire probe, Ashoksinh Jadeja, one of the owners of the facility, was sent to four-day police remand by a local court on Friday. Jadeja was arrested after he surrendered as the hearing on his anticipatory bail plea was deferred by a local court.
Bharat Basiya, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime), Rajkot city police, produced the 61-year-old accused in a magisterial court. Basiya is also the investigating officer in the case. The Crime Branch filed an application seeking Jadeja’s remand for seven days. However, the court granted police his custody for four days only, Tushar Gokani, special public prosecutor in the case, said.
Jadeja and his younger brother Kiritsinh are the owners of the land on which the game zone was set up in 2021. The two brothers were also partners in Raceway Enterprise, a partnership firm that was running the game zone in partnership with Dhaval Corporation, a proprietorship firm owned by Dhaval Thakkar.
RZ Sheikh, advocate of Ashoksinh, opposed the remand application of the Rajkot Crime Branch, stating his client had no role in the incident and sending him to police custody even for an hour could not be justified. He also submitted that Jadeja has lost his eyesight and is also hard of hearing. However, Gokani countered the plea, stating that Jadeja’s custodial interrogation was needed for a thorough probe in the case.
A resident of Rajkot, Ashoksinh had surrendered before the Rajkot Crime Branch late on Thursday. His surrender came hours after the Rajkot district and sessions court deferred hearing on his anticipatory bail plea for the second time.
A massive fire at the TRP game zone killed children among 27 people on May 25.
