An explosion caused by a leaking Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinder gutted a single-storey building in the Walled City area of Vadodara on Thursday morning. No casualty was reported. According to the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) fire officials,it took them over two hours to control the blaze in the house of one Magan Patel in a congested street of Shiyabaug locality. According to Chief Fire Officer H J Tapariya,the faulty cylinder or its regulator could be the reason behind the explosion,as it occurred when Patels wife was boiling water. As per the complaint,Patel had replaced the old cylinder and fitted the new one three hours before the explosion occurred, added Tapariya,who was present at the site along with other officials and three fire tenders. According to the Wadi police,goods worth Rs 1.2 lakh,belonging to the three families staying in the building,were destroy in the fire. We have asked Patel to give details of the agency from where the cylinder was purchased. Although there was no casualty,as per Patel,he lost almost all his valuables in the explosion, said Sub-Inspector K B Parmar. He added that two other families that resided in the same building reported loss of valuable items,including furniture. According to fire officials,three fire incidents due to faulty LPG cylinders have been reported from the city in as many months.
