There is good news for students wishing to continue their higher education in Gujarat. From this academic session,all state government universities will begin the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) in all postgraduate courses.
The aim is to build a system of credits instead of marks,and also promote interdisciplinary methods of learning.
But only three universities Maharaja Sayajirao University (Science stream),Saurashtra University (SU) and Sardar Patel University (SPU) will start the CSBS system from June onwards,said state higher education department authorities.
State CBCS Coordinator A K Singh said: All seven state government universities Gujarat University,SU,MSU,SPU,Bhavnagar University,Kutch University and Veer Narmad South Gujarat University (VNSGU) will introduce the CSBS system in all postgraduate courses.
This will be done from June onwards,he added.
Gujarat state higher education authorities said,CSBS is being implemented in few states in south India Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
A committee comprising MSU Vice-Chancellor Professor Ramesh Goyal,former Gujarat University VC
A U Patel,former VNSGU Vice-Chancellor R G Kothari and former MSU VC Hitanshu Vyas was formed to look into the UGC recommendations.
Board withholds results of another 44 students
THE results of 44 students at this years Class XII General Stream exams will be withheld,the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) announced on Wednesday. The latest ruling comes a day after the Board decided to withhold the results of 26 Class XII students caught cheating in this years exams.
At present,the total number of General stream results withheld stands at 64. For the Science stream,the figure is six.
Besides,14 students have been debarred from appearing for the exams in 2011,the board said in a statement on its website. Three others,caught for proxy,were debarred till 2012. A total of 98 students were called to meet the committee members on Thursday,but only 65 attended. In all,the board has summoned 203 students in cheating cases.
