A special CBI court in the Patiala House Courts complex on Monday issued a summons to Ketan Desai, former president of the Medical Council of India (MCI),and five others after taking cognizance of a chargesheet filed by the CBI against them in a graft case.

Special CBI judge Dharmesh Sharma sought their presence on November 2 after taking cognizance of the chargesheet, which said Desai had accepted Rs 2 crore bribe for giving recognition to a private medical college in Punjab.

“I take cognizance of the chargesheet filed against the accused persons. Issue summons against them for November 2,” the judge said.

The CBI had filed the chargesheet more than a year after the arrest of Ketan Desai and three others — J P Singh,Kamaljeet Singh and Sukhvinder Singh — on April 22 in connection with the alleged graft.
