A Metropolitan Court on Tuesday rejected an application seeking CBI probe in the 2008 death case of two cousins staying at Asaram’s city-based ashram. The application had been filed by the parents of the children alleging that the investigation carried out by CID (Crime) was not satisfactory. Cousins Dipesh Vaghela (10) and Abhishek Vaghela (11) went missing from Asaram’s gurukul, a residential school situated in Motera Ashram of the city, on July 3, 2008 under mysterious circumstances. On July 5, 2008, the mutilated bodies of the two boys were found in the Sabarmati riverbed near the Ashram.

The application seeking CBI probe said that the cause of the death of the two children has not been investigated properly by the local police as well as the inquiry commission (Justice D K Trivedi Commission) constituted by the state government.

The CID officials in 2009 has booked seven followers of Asaram in the case under IPC section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) against whom charge sheet was filed in September 2012.
