THE Gujarat High Court on Wednesday asked the Advocate General whether Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s letter to the Prime Minister over the Lokayukta appointment was released officially and,if yes, whether the former was in the know of the same.

The court sought a reply by September 21.

The court gave the oral directions to Advocate General Kamal Trivedi while acting on two petitions praying the court to take suo motu cognisance of making the letter public and consider the same as ‘interference’ in the judicial proceedings.

The petitions have been moved by Bhikha Jethava, father of the slain RTI activist Amit Jethava, and advocate Rajesh Mankad.

The petitions are being heard by a division bench comprising Justices Akil Kureshi and Sonia Gokani.

Modi had recently written a letter to PM Manmohan Singh while making its content public to the media.

In the letter,he had elaborately disclosed contents of his correspondence with the offices of the Chief Justice and the Governor over the issue of appointment of Lokayukta.

He had also alleged that the Governor acted in collusion with the Leader of Opposition and the Congress.
