Police have arrested a man and launched a hunt for a tantrik who doubled as quack in connection with the murder of a school teacher and an businessman last week. As per details,Dharmesh Parmar (39),an embroidery trader and a resident of Abhaynagar in Varachha, and his friend Mahesh Godhani (40),a teacher and resident of Adajan in Surat, had been taking treatment from Arvind Bhagat,a quack in Bardoli taluka, for the last two years.
Police said the two had also lent Rs 25 lakh to Bhagat, who promised to double the amount in a few months. However, when the two began asking for their money back after a few months,Bhagat hatched a plan to kill them with help from one Ramsingh Vasawa,a forest guard at Songadh in Tapi district who also used to get treatment from Bhagat.
According to details,Ramsingh came to Surat in a car on April 1 night along with his nephew Vinod and told Mahesh and Dharmesh that Bhagat had called them to a place where he could return their money. When the two failed to return by the afternoon the next day, their family members lodged missing complaints separately at the police stations at Adajan and Varachha. The cellphones the two were carrying were found to be switched off.
Police said Ramsingh and his nephew Vinod proceeded towards Mandvi along with Dharmesh and Mahesh. After reaching Mandvi,Ramsingh and his nephew took Mahesh out of the car into the deserted fields nearby and strangulated him to death. Back in car, they told Dharmesh that Mahesh did not want to come. The duo then drove to Zhagadia, where they allegedly strangulated Dharmesh to death and dumped the body on the roadside.
The same day,Zhagadia police found the body and after establishing its identity, they handed over the body to Dharmeshs family.
After sifting through Dharmeshs cellphone records, the police picked up Ramsingh, who broke down during the interrogation and confessed to his involvement. The Zhagadia police then contacted the Surat rural police and informed them about Maheshs body, which was recovered later.
Surat district SP Piyush Patel said,Ramsingh confessed he had been given Rs 5 lakh and a car for the job. We have launched a manhunt for Arvind Bhagat, who is into Ayurvedic medicines.
