Cops crack Panchmahals murder case,arrest one

A week after an 85-year-old woman from a Lunawada royal family was murdered,the Vadodara Crime Branch claims to have cracked the case with the arrest of a member of a tribal youth gang.

A week after an 85-year-old woman from a Lunawada royal family was murdered,the Vadodara Crime Branch claims to have cracked the case with the arrest of a member of a tribal youth gang,belonging to Dahod and Jhabua on Monday morning.

The police say four youths,three of whom,are still at large,had planned a theft at the house of Praffulkaurba,who is said to have lot of gold stashed in her house. The youth has confessed to the murder.

According to the police,the youth had overheard people speaking of the wealth that Praffulkunwarba had in her possession. The information was passed on by some workers at a construction site close to her house on Warghari Road in Lunawada. On August 3,the four youth arrived in Lunawada via Ahmedabad and conducted a recce of the house to ensure that the lady lived alone. SK Gadhvi DCP (Crime) says,“The men first attempted to break into the house on the night,because they were convinced that she was alone. However,the woman woke up due to the noise and they aborted their attempt for the time being. The youth then created a hole the size of half a window with the help of an metal weapon and entered one by one. Their motive was to decamp with the gold. They overpowered the woman while she was asleep.”

Police say the youth brutally murdered the woman after gagging her and decamped with four gold bangles worth Rs 1 lakh,two of which have been recovered .

While three of the accused are still at large,police say the confession of the youth and the bangles’ recovery have made the case extremely water tight.
