The Ahmedabad civil and sessions Bhadra court Thursday granted bail to Malini Patel, wife of Kiran Patel who was arrested by the Jammu & Kashmir Police for allegedly posing as an official with the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).
The bail application of Malini was heard on May 3 and reserved for orders. “Kiran’s bail application is pending before the metropolitan magistrate court. It will be heard after May 10,” said Malini’s advocate Nisar Vaidya.
The magistrate metropolitan court in Gheekanta had, in April, rejected an earlier application for bail to Malini. She was in judicial custody since April first week for her alleged involvement in a property fraud worth Rs 15 crore. An FIR was filed on March 22 based on a complaint by Jagdish Chavda, brother of BJP leader Jawahar Chavda naming Kiran and Malini for defrauding him of Rs 15 crore in the guise of renovating his residential property in the Shilaj area of Ahmedabad in 2022.
The couple was booked under IPC Sections 406 (criminal breach of trust), 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 170 (personating a public servant) and 120 B (criminal conspiracy).
Malini, along with her husband and in-laws, was also booked in a cheating case of Rs 1 crore for which an FIR was registered in 2017 in Ahmedabad’s Naroda police station. They were booked for cheating, criminal breach of trust and criminal conspiracy.
Kiran was also booked in two more FIRs in April for allegedly cheating the owner of an Ahmedabad-based event management company of Rs 3.51 lakh. In another complaint, he was accused of defrauding a person of Rs 80 lakh in a deal pertaining to the sale of his ancestral property in the Narol area of Ahmedabad.
