Congress’s Amit Chavda seeks separate recruitment board in co-operative sector
The Congress leader also stepped up the attack on the ruling BJP, saying, “It had been an accepted principle for years that the government should not intervene in the cooperative sector. But if we see it today, the cooperative sector has been governmentalised. And because of that the spirit of cooperation has receded."

Congress legislative party leader Amit Chavda Monday demanded that a separate board for the recruitment in cooperative sector in the state should be set up to bring transparency. His remarks came during a discussion in the Assembly on budgetary demands of departments of cooperation and roads and buildings as the state government listed its achievements on various counts.
“Because of scams and lack of transparency in recruitments of cooperative institutes, the confidence of the young generation has ebbed. To stop that happening and to bring transparency in the recruitment of cooperative institutes, the state government should establish a cooperative institutes recruitment board. I believe that if we do so, then we will be able to maintain the image of cooperative institutes,” Chavda said.
The Congress leader also stepped up the attack on the ruling BJP, saying, “It had been an accepted principle for years that the government should not intervene in the cooperative sector. But if we see it today, the cooperative sector has been governmentalised. And because of that the spirit of cooperation has receded.”
Gujarat Minister of State for Cooperation Jagdish Vishwakarma sought passage of the budgetary demands of the two departments while highlighting various initiatives taken by the government. Vishwakarma said the cooperation sector in Gujarat is thriving with over 87,000 cooperative societies having more than 1.71 crore members.
He said the government is planning to modernise the cooperative sector in the state. The budgetary demands were passed with a majority vote amid opposition from Congress.
