Congress women wing takes out rally to protest gangrape of minor

The women’s wing of the Congress party in Surat and Tapi districts took out a rally on Friday demanding strict action against the three youths accused of raping a minor girl in the forests of Songadh taluka.

Later they handed over a memorandum to the taluka mamlatdar.

Jesia Bharwad,his maternal uncle Bhagwan Bharwad,and Zakir Khatik,all residents of Songadh taluka in Tapi district,had gangraped a 14-year-old girl in the deep forests of Songadh taluka.

Jesia Bharwad worked as a driver at the firm belonging to the victim’s father.

The police had arrested the three and had taken them to the New Civil Hospital for examination. The forensic department had collected samples from the site as well as the car used in the crime,for analysis.

State Congress Women Wing president Bharti Patel said: “The accused should be punished and the police should provide security to the women. Eve-teasers outside colleges and schools should be picked up. Even youths who tease girls and women in the vegetable markets should not be spared.”

Strict police arrangements have now been made in Songadh town in a bid to avert any untoward incident.

Superintendent of Police Prabhat Patel said: “We are carrying out investigations and have collected all evidence from the spot as well as from other places where the rape was committed. We are trying to find out the antecedents of the accused.”
