Senior Congress leaders of Gujarat joined their party colleagues across the country as they held a ‘maun satyagraha’ in Ahmedabad Wednesday to protest against the disqualification of Rahul Gandhi as Lok Sabha MP after a Surat court indicted him in a defamation case for his remarks on the Modi community.
Rajya Sabha MP and Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee President Shaktisinh Gohil slammed the “political hatred towards Rahul Gandhi who is constantly fighting for issues such as inflation, unemployment and corruption affecting the lives of the common and middle-class citizens of the country.” “Rahul Gandhi, as a public figure, is constantly raising his voice for the farmers, youth, workers, small businessmen and traders of India in the interest of the nation. The BJP does not approve of this,” he said from the protest site at Gandhi Chindhya Marg near Sabarmati Ashram.
Lashing out at the BJP’s politics of hatred, Gohil added that Rahul has never insulted any caste, community or religion, and always respected them.
“Rahul Gandhi works for public benefit, while, on the other hand, the country is being looted for a handful of people. Thieves including Nirav Modi, Lalit Modi and Mehul Choksi have plundered crores of rupees,” he added.
Congress’s Legislative Party Leader in the Assembly, Amit Chavda said the party will challenge the High Court order in the Supreme Court. “Our commitment to the welfare of every Indian is clear. No matter what tactics the BJP adopts against us, such executional forces cannot last much longer in India. There is a lot of outrage across the country today due to the wrongful and vindictive disqualification of Rahul Gandhi,” Chavda added.
