The state Congress has invited suggestions for a panel of three names to pick Lok Sabha candidates that would be decided by way of a “secret ballot”. The decision was taken in a coordination committee meeting of the party organisation for 15 city districts of Gujarat, presided by GPCC president Shaktisinh Gohil at the Rajiv Gandhi Bhavan in Ahmedabad, on Wednesday. “The democratic process of writing the names of three competent and active candidates on ballot papers and depositing it in the ballot box is being implemented with an innovative approach, taking into account factors such as local network, contribution to the party, etc of the worker,” a statement said. Leaders like Amit Chavda, Madhusudan Mistry, Arjun Modhwadia, Siddharth Patel and Shailesh Parmar, among others, attended the meeting. The party also announced the appointment of new district presidents by February 10 to replace those unit presidents who want to be “relieved”.
